It has an amazing museum inside with history of the Island, pictorial histories of Sand Island Light House, Fort Gaines, and the bridges of Dauphin Island. Historical fishing and oyster gear and photos of early life on the island are also on display. The museum has an extensive photo and art display telling the story of Dauphin Island's role in the 1864 Civil War Battle of Mobile Bay and much more! It's a great spot to get free wifi for any of your devices or use one of the computers or tablets. A printer is also available. It also host a wide varitey of books in the Lending Library, another great free of charge service. There are many fiction as well as some classics and non-fiction books. There are also large print and children's books. Puzzles and games are available to loan, as well as a few DVDs and audio books. Also, don't forget to check out the gift shop! For quick access to public parking, trolley stops, and beach access points, refer to our handy map for information. Beach access: The Town of Dauphin Island is now using ParkMobile for parking at these beaches, all ZONE 95202 . East End Beach - behind Historic Fort Gaines Middle Beach - next to the Dauphin Island Elementary School West End Beach - 3000 Bienville Boulevard Pay once and park at all 3 beaches today! April 1 - September 30 - pay $10.35 from 8am - 7pm. October 1 - March 31 pay $5.35 from 8am - 5pm. The Town will continue to use the ParkMobile system to collect payment of parking fees. Beach goers will continue to be able to move between beaches on the same day without paying a second fee. Residents and property owners with Town issued decals will continue to park without fees. Daily fees allow same day visits to the three town-ownded beaches and expire at 12:01AM the following day of purchase. Illegally parked vehicles are subject to booting and/or towing at owner's expense! Customers are encouraged to download the ParkMobile app, pay online, via text or Google Pay Resident/property owner decals are available at Town Hall for $5 per decal. Annual passes for the general public are available for $150. The annual passes can be purchased at Town Hall or during non business hours, by calling parking enforcement officer at 251-372-4640 or 251-372-4642 . Side Street Parking: Dauphin Island property owners and their guests may park on the following West End side streets to access the beach: Raphael Semmes, St. Stephens, Sam Houston, and Sehoy. A permit must be displayed to park there (payment is not accepted at these locations). Acceptable permits are either a resident/property owner decal (available at Town Hall) affixed to the vehicle or a temporary placard placed on the driver’s side dashboard. Temporary placards (that coincide with active lodging/rental agreements) are available in the following locations: Police Department, Town Hall, rental companies, and campground (for campground guests only). Vehicles without proper permits are subject to booting, ticketing, and/or towing at owner’s expense. Note: Temporary placards are NOT honored at any parking areas that require payment, including East End, Middle, and West End Beaches. There are a number of side streets that do NOT provide beach access (without crossing over /onto private property). Signage will indicate “no access to beach” in these areas. Please mail by sending in a self-addressed stamped envelope with a check made payable to Town of Dauphin Island for the total amount of re-entry passes (maximum of four per household). Come see us today! < Back Dauphin Island Pier The 850-foot Dauphin Island "Fishing" Pier is now on dry land due to the recent migration of Pelican Island joining the public beach shoreline. (A similar situation occurred in the 1600s and created Pelican Bay, which was one of the reasons the French first settled here.) The Pier structure has now been modified to provide sightseeing and picnicking. Steps at the end of the Pier give quick access to the Gulf shoreline.
