Dauphin Island Police Department – Camera Registry and Business Key Holder Program

The Dauphin Island Police Department is committed to strengthening public safety through partnerships with our residents and business community. To improve emergency response, criminal investigations, and after-hours property protection, the Department is implementing two voluntary public safety programs: a Camera Registry Form and a Business Key Holder Form.

Camera Registry Program

The Camera Registry Program allows residents and business owners to voluntarily provide the Dauphin Island Police Department with basic information about privately owned security cameras located on their property. This program does not give the Department direct access to any camera system or live video feed. Instead, it allows officers to quickly identify locations where video footage may be available following a crime, traffic incident, missing person investigation, vandalism complaint, or other public safety event.

Having a current registry of camera locations can significantly reduce the time needed to locate potential evidence, identify suspects, track vehicles, and establish timelines during an investigation. In many cases, video evidence can be the key to solving property crimes, hit-and-run crashes, thefts, and suspicious activity complaints. This program is intended to improve communication between the Police Department and the community while helping protect both residents and visitors to Dauphin Island.  Click here to REGISTER your CAMERA.

Business Key Holder Program

The Business Key Holder Form allows business owners to provide the Police Department with up-to-date emergency contact information for individuals who can respond after hours in the event of an alarm call, break-in, fire, storm damage, unlocked business, or other urgent incident involving the property.

Because Dauphin Island is a coastal community that experiences severe weather, seasonal business fluctuations, and periods when business owners may be off-island, having reliable key holder information is essential. This information allows officers to quickly notify the appropriate contact when a problem is discovered and helps reduce delays in securing a building, preventing further damage, or coordinating with fire, public works, or utility personnel when needed.  Click Here to REGISTER.

Public Safety Purpose

Both forms are designed to improve coordination between the Dauphin Island Police Department and the community we serve. These programs will help the Department:

  • Improve investigative response times

  • Identify potential video evidence more efficiently

  • Contact responsible parties during emergencies or after-hours incidents

  • Reduce property loss and damage by securing buildings faster

  • Strengthen partnerships between law enforcement, residents, and business owners

  • Enhance overall safety for the island’s residents, visitors, and business community

Participation in these programs is voluntary, but strongly encouraged. By working together and sharing important information ahead of time, we can better protect property, improve emergency response, and continue keeping Dauphin Island a safe place to live, work, and visit.
