The Town of Dauphin Island has successfully secured funding from the National Fish and Wildlife Foundaiotn Gulf Environmental Benefit Fund (NFWFGEBF) to restore the beach and dunes along the East End of the island. Sand dredging is happening along the El Dorado site. Rocks are being placed at both the DeSoto and El Dorado site. It has an amazing museum inside with history of the Island, pictorial histories of Sand Island Light House, Fort Gaines, and the bridges of Dauphin Island. Historical fishing and oyster gear and photos of early life on the island are also on display. The museum has an extensive photo and art display telling the story of Dauphin Island's role in the 1864 Civil War Battle of Mobile Bay and much more! It's a great spot to get free wifi for any of your devices or use one of the computers or tablets. A printer is also available. It also host a wide varitey of books in the Lending Library, another great free of charge service. There are many fiction as well as some classics and non-fiction books. There are also large print and children's books. Puzzles and games are available to loan, as well as a few DVDs and audio books. Also, don't forget to check out the gift shop!
