Dauphin Island Municipal Court is a court of limited jurisdiction and hears misdemeanor cases. Court is held on the second Wednesday of every month. The arraignment setting begins at 4:00 PM and trial at 5:00 PM. If a defendant is declared Indigent by the Judge, an attorney will be provided by the Town.
The following is a list of some of the cases that are heard in a municipal court:
- Traffic violations
- Town Ordinance violations
- Domestic Violence
- Alcohol and Drug violations
- Parking violations
- Any other violations of state or local laws that are defined as misdemeanors
The Judge is the only authority that can grant the opportunity to attend Traffic School in lieu of conviction of a minor traffic violation.
Any conviction in Dauphin Island Municipal Court may be appealed to Mobile County Circuit Court. Dauphin Island Municipal Court strives to be fair and impartial in the disposition of all cases under its jurisdiction.
